Loved and Lost

But Always Remembered

Cookie was Brittanys 1st horse. She was bought when Brittany was 3 yrs old . Cookie was abused and neglected by her previous owner. Her  Feet were long she was skin and bones her coat was dull. I as Britts mother wanted to leave her, I saw dollar signs  in rehabilitating this pony, Britt wouldn't leave the barn with out me putting  a note on the stall saying we would take Cookie, by 8 that night our pony and Britts new best friend arrived, me not knowing if this  walking bag of bones was going to make it. I called the farrier and the vet the next morning. The farrier had his doubts after looking at her badly foundered feet and told me to have the pony put down. I waited for the Vet 2 days later the vet said no problem, he cut her feet down and told me to keep her in the mud and call the farrier back in 2 weeks. I called the farrier, he was supprised at what he saw, he then decided to take this pony on as a project charging me only for the supplys . A year later Britt was gymkahnahing and trail riding this Pony everywhere. They were inseperatable. Britt eventually out grew Cookie , but never gave her up or got rid of her, instead Britt let a select few children learn and ride her, this Pony is what got Britt doing Day Camps and teaching other kids about horses. The saddest day of Britts and my life came on Nov. 20 2006 when the day came Cookie could no longer stand on her own, She was foundered and had cushions disease we knew someday soon this would happen, we pampered Cookie in our back yard for almost a  year letting her enjoy retirement and to be able to spend every moment with her Britt. Britt and I were there at Cookies last breath, she was euthanized and as many people know its the hardest thing  a pet owner has to do. Cookie will always be remembered and loved by so many people Especially her family!
